No, I’m not nesting but I’m itching for change so I’m attacking Bea’s room with a vengeance
Not that I have a lot of time in my hands but I manage projects for a living. Surely I can manage a home project too.
Hence the beginning of Bea’s room makeover.
After having discovered Twilight and rooting for ‘Team Edward’, Bea has lost interest in all things ‘High School Musical.’ She has been asking me every second day when we can get rid of her HSM duvet and pillow cases.
Bea and I talked about what she wanted. She’s pretty laid back about these things, unlike her Mother! She wants a Twilight themed room and she’s into ‘Emo’ at the moment but I didn’t want the room to get too goth or dark so I’ve agreed to make the room Twilight-y without getting too goth.
The furniture had to go. Bea has had mismatched furniture over the years so her dark brown book case and computer desk went to a new home while her tallboy will be transferred to the guest room upstairs.
First, I sought inspiration from the web (where else?). I visited various home decorating sites and other bloggers who shared their own room makeovers.
I fell in love with all-white furniture while accenting it with charcoal grey and red while SOMEONE kept on asking in the background “Will I get a Twilight duvet set?”
I fell in love with Dooce’s IKEA bookcase that she bought for her daughter’s bedroom. Sadly, there is no IKEA in New Zealand. And it will cost me half our mortgage to have one shipped from Australia.
I did ask a kitchen joiner to quote me for the bookcase similar to the IKEA bookcase but alas, it would have cost me half a grand just for the bookcase. Hmmm, not really keen on spending that much for a bookcase.
So I settled for this bookcase instead. I know it’s a poor cousin next to the IKEA Goddess bookcase above. But this baby, we bought for $60 so I’m not complaining. Plus, I’ve thought about it some more, Bea’s room not big enough to accommodate a 5×5 bookcase. It could but she has to sleep upright
Next that had to go were Bea’s collection of Beanie Babies (hanging in a multi-level bag above). We couldn’t throw them away as they are worth quite a lot PLUS we have collected these over the years and it’s such a shame to sell them so we’re storing them somewhere safe till we figure out what we want to do.
The collection of Winnie The Pooh soft toys had to go as well as Bea and I felt it will not go with the new theme of her room. We have given these to Bea’s cute cousin, Nate for his enjoyment
Plus gives him more soft toys to chew on
Next up I’ll talk about the new furniture we found plus the inspiration we’ve discovered for her walls.
Stay tuned!

I love that bookcase! I wish my rooms were bigger to accommodate it
At the moment I have just two bookcases sidebyside.

Hi T! to be honest, I’d prefer a larger bookcase but the room’s not big enough to accommodate a bigger bookcase! xx

Bitin! I can’t wait to see how it progresses!
May I make a suggestion? Explore fairy lights! Those white christmas lights? They make any room look magical, lalo na when all the lights are closed. Very Twilighty!
I love her new room’s theme btw
